Solent IRC Championships Prize Giving

The prize giving for the Solent IRC Championships was recently held at the Hamble River Sailing Club. The series is open to all IRC boats with a handicap between 0.750 and 1.360 and cruisers sailing under each host clubs handicap system. It is the 16th year of the championship and although numbers aren’t at the level of its heyday there was a good turn out to all the events.
This year the host events were:
- Christchurch Bay Race hosted by Island Sailing Club
- Champagne Charlie Platinum Jubilee Regatta hosted by Royal Southern Yacht Club
- Taittinger Regatta hosted by the Royal Solent Yacht Club
- Nab Tower hosted by the Island Sailing Club
- Hamble IRC Autumn Championships hosted by the Hamble River Sailing Club
A mix of round the cans and longer races and covering all areas of the Solent. Three out of four events to count. The overall positions on the podiums were all hard fought for. With a few notable ones. It went down to countback in IRC 2 with Becky Walford’s, Brenda’s J pipping Giovanni Belgrano’s Whooper to the top spot. And for the overall it went down to the last event to finalize the top 3. The season leader Kevin Taylors Jump 2 It overtaken by Ian Handley’s and Tim James’ Banter and a regular at the top Theresa Whelan’s Zarifa this year finished off the podium.
